Grape growers turned wine producers, the Azpillaga Urarte family legacy continues today with two brothers, Eduardo and Ignacio.

Emilio Pérez de Azpillaga and M. Carmen Urarte had been growing grapes for wine makers up until the 1960s and then decided to start producing their own wine in the 1970s. The emphasis on ethical farming for which the winery is known today came about when Eduardo brought what he had learned from studying wine back to the family farm.

The Azpillaga Urartes tinkered with their use of chemicals until they managed to phase them out completely. The brothers are doubling down on what they put into the earth and make their own homemade natural treatments for their vineyards. This regenerative approach to farming solidifies their status experts on natural wine and they lecture on the subject at the University of La Rioja on the subject.
