THE STORY
This stunning Rioja was a joint venture between chef Felix Jimenez and wine producer Bodegas Ontañón. The wine was made specifically to match the food at Jimenez's Michelin star restaurant Kiro in Logroño. The name "Akemi" translates to "Beautiful Dawn" in Japanese. The wine is round and creamy with a lively acidity.
HOW ITS MADE
White Rioja isn't something that's seen often which makes this wine even more unique. Made from 100% Viura grapes and taken from a single vineyard plot belonging to the Bodegas Ontañón winery. Viura grapes are indigenous to Spain and France and are a lot like a chardonnay. The wine is aged for the most part in second use American oak before bottling.
