THE STORY
Pago de Tharsys lies on an old estate in Utiel Requena that dates all the way back to 1805. It is a 12 hectare estate based at Requena, approximately 70 miles inland from Valencia on Spain's eastern coast. The vineyard is south facing and planted at 650m elevation on sandy soil with excellent drainage.

It was purchased by the Garcia family in 1981 and they began adding plots of vines in the early 1990s. Despite the fact that the estate is seeped with history, this is very much a modern project that is ever evolving. Vincente Garcia is known as the "The Godfather of Valencian Cava" as he always strives to find harmony between traditional and modern winemaking techniques to bring out the best indigenous varieties of Valencia.
THE WINE
This winery stands out for bringing unique and innovative wines to the market. They produce their wines under the appellations of "Vino de Pago", D.O. Utiel-Requena and D.O. Cava. Among the varieties grown on the land, they are most famous for their commitment to their indigenous varietal, Bobal. They are also widely recognised as one of the very top producers of Cava.

The Academia de Nocturnos range is a homage to the mythical 'Nocturnal Academy' of 16th century Valencia. The Academy was where known artists and novelists used to meet over a glass of wine. This red is made from 100% Bobal grapes that bring on flavours of cherry, ripe berries and balsamic.
